Training

Is training recommended for this model?

Yes. Training and ongoing consultation are highly recommended but not required. Training can help ensure that each school has the necessary information and strategies to successfully launch and sustain this comprehensive model with fidelity. Respect WORKS! leverages Break the Cycle’s expertise, offering ongoing technical assistance, as needed.

Who should attend the training?

Training is recommended for all teachers administering the Safe Dates curriculum, in order to ensure it is presented in a manner that preserves the program’s fidelity. Training may be provided in a larger, district-wide setting or in smaller groups.

Schools and school districts planning to employ a school policy and response protocol using the School Policy Kit may benefit from in-depth training and technical assistance, as these policies often intersect with mandatory reporting laws and existing school disciplinary codes.

Where does the training take place?

The location of any training should be given special consideration. We recommend that this training not take place at the school during a school day when students are in the building. Administrators and teachers in such a situation may be tempted to leave the training for short periods of time to take care of arising issues. Missing any part of the training is highly disruptive to an individual’s understanding of all the program’s elements and to how the elements are dependent upon each other in implementation. All trainees should be invited to a comfortable training site and their schedules should be cleared so they are present for the entire training. This training is critical to the success of the program.

Can we talk to personnel in schools that have used the program?

Because we want to protect the privacy (and time) of school personnel, we do not share contact information without prior approval. If you are interested in talking with personnel who have implemented the program, contact info@hazelden.org
